“Bespoke” without the drama

Custom doesn’t mean gold-plated and endless. It means the screens match the jobs people actually do. The fields you need are there; the ones you don’t aren’t. Reporting answers the question the manager asks every Monday, not the one the vendor assumed.

That’s slower to demo than a template. Faster six months in, when nobody’s maintaining a shadow process in Excel.

Then add AI where it helps

Once the foundation fits, practical AI has a home — document intake, smarter search, a summary on a busy screen. You’re not bolting a chatbot onto a system nobody likes. You’re making a system people already trust a bit less exhausting.

We’ve watched tech fads come and go since 2003. The constant is outcomes: fewer hours lost, fewer errors, clearer ownership. Fancy language is optional.

How to tell if you need custom

If you’re fighting the tool more than the work, that’s a clue. If three departments each have their own “source of truth,” that’s another. If a package product is 90% right and the last 10% is painful every day — talk to someone who builds that last 10%.
